I have a couple of favorite classical stations that stream their broadcasts, but I don't have a computer in the kitchen nor in the car. Sigh.

I listen to a classical station in Chicago when I'm in the Land of Flat, but they require a membership to listen to their stream. :-p~ Right now, KDFC out of San Francisco is streaming from my computer. There's also one in Rhode Island and one in Kansas City that I listen to.

And, hey- if you want to listen to classical on the weekend, go to wrcjfm.org, and click on the "Listen Live" link. You'll need to leave your computer running, and speakers turned up, but it's a solution of sorts.

There's an FM station here in the Detroit market that is usually easy listening/adult contemporary - whatever that means. It's a step above Muzak in that there are usually lyrics. And for YEARS they've had the monopoly on Christmas music, starting 24/7 holiday broadcasts the day after Thanksgiving. Until some bean counter noticed that their ratings went way up during that time, so let's move the start date back. Last year, they started the Christmas music around the middle of November. This year, I think it started a week or two ago, possibly on November 1.

You do realize, of course, that the "old man" then was about your age now, give or take a year.

I hadn't thought about that for a long time. Remember the mouse in the sleeping bag? Remember the Old Man telling us to get up and make some coffee? He didn't drink it, but he loved the aroma.

My joy was short-lived.

The limit is back. Grrrrrr.

This issue is also being discussed on talk radio these days - it's about time those guys pay attention to me, because if the rest of the world looked at things the way I do, we'd have a peaceful world and we'd all be better off.

So there.

Katie, thank you for posting here, I'm most honored. We all meet many people, each and every one of them has some sort of impact on us. Most of those experiences are quickly forgotten, whether good, bad or indifferent.

Unfortunately, we meet precious few people who make a lasting, positive impression on us.

Your grandfather was one of those people.

This Irishman is my Grandpa who passed away when I was only 2 years old. The memories that I have of him are few, but by reading this I felt like I had a second chance to get to know him. Thank you for bringing him to life with your words. It means more than you know.
